IRS Extends Tax Deadline for Taxpayers Affected by Texas Storms

The IRS announced today that it will extend the tax filing and payment deadline from April 15, 2021 to June 15, 2021, for taxpayers residing in Texas. This two-month automatic extension intends to alleviate some of the hardships caused by the recent severe weather events.

No action is required to get this relief. The IRS automatically provides filing and penalty relief to any taxpayer with an IRS address of record located in the disaster area. Just make sure you have the right address when filing your 2020 Form 1040. If you live outside of Texas and think you should be qualified for the relief, you can contact the IRS at +1 (866) 562-5227.
